Thursday, July 18th 2013, the British Chamber of Commerce Guangdong in conjunction with UK Trade & Investment, and the China Britain Business Council hosted its annual UK Architectural Forum. The subject for this year’s event was Green is Gold.

 

Attendees at the event included representatives from the British Chamber, British ConsulateGeneral Guangzhou, British Council and RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors). Also in attendance were officials from the Guangzhou Construction Committee, local Architecture Institutions, and senior representatives from Chinese Real Estate Developers active in the PRD, representatives from leading UK Architectural/Construction/Engineering companies, International Design Companies and many other companies and individuals from this sector.

 

The Forum kicked off with welcome speeches given by Andrew Massey, Acting Consul-General of British Consulate General Guangzhou, and Christopher Devereux, Vice Chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce Guangdong. The forum then saw presentations from Guangzhou Construction Committee, Foster & Partners, Aedas, Arup, Vanke Dongguan Architecture Research Centre and Wei Yang & Partners. Their topics covered sustainable green building, green BIM, garden city, zero carbon city as well as urban oasis.

 

Speakers shared their ideas of how to use green strategies to innovate, to create value, and build competitive advantage. In addition, they also provide more advices on how to take the step forward in taking the advantage of green design and technologies that will benefit marketing and environment eventually.

 

Dr. Wei Yang from Wei Yang & Partners showed Key opportunities and challenges in the current urbanisation process in China. And also introduce the concept and methodology of master planning 21st Century Garden City in China via sharing The UK’s similar experience and strategies in the urbanization process.

 

Ms. Wang Yun from Vanke Dongguan Architecture Research Centre talked about how to develop the key value of products and build up the competitive edge of green and environment-friendly products.

Dr. Benny Chow from Aedas introduced a concept of green building information modeling (Green BIM) to us. He also provided some insights of sustainable city development with relevant examples. In the panel discussion, the presenters interacted positively with the audience and gave satisfactory answers to their questions regarding eco-urban development and practical measures.

 

The event was a huge success with more than 250 guests in attendance to make the most of the opportunity to build connections with UK and Chinese companies. Through organizing events such as the 2013 UK Architecture Forum, the British Chamber of Commerce hopes to increase cooperation between companies from the UK and China.
